  1. Finished projects and a cure for what ails me

    June 27, 2012 by enid

IMG 2670 300x300 Finished projects and a cure for what ails me Viola I have finished another shawl. I started this in February and just finished it two days ago.

I used:  Ella Rae Lace Merino

    460 yards (421 meters)
    100 grams (3.53 ounces)
    26.0 sts = 4 inches
for more information you can go to http://purlbumps.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/calais-shawl/
And I pretty much used all of it. I had a little tiny ball left about (3 grams left), to give you a visual it’s maybe the size of a dime? Yeah something like that. Here is the proof.

Why am I obsessing about what I have left? Who really cares you might say to yourself. I do. icon smile Finished projects and a cure for what ails me In a previous post I talked about my PBOS (premature bind off syndrome) that I self diagnosed and invented myself. I waste a lot of yarn to put it plainly.
And this time with the guidance and advice of some of my awesome fellow knitter sisters. I took their advice and used a scale. It worked.
What did I learn? When you think you need to bind off, go another row.
The simple technique. Weigh your cake or ball of yarn. Then work a row or two. Then weigh it again. The difference should tell you how much you used and how many more rows you will be able to go before you can bind off or run your nearest LYS and purchase more yarn. icon biggrin Finished projects and a cure for what ails me
    It’s that simple.
I liked this pattern but also made a booboo while I was knitting it up. I should have done more of the lacy repeats and then less of the edge pattern repeats. But that’s okay I kind of like the edge.

  2. Less is more month.

I played and played with brushes, and my pen, and nothing looked right. It’s March, lets keep it simple. Simple like a knit and purl stitch for if it wasn’t for these two simple stitches we wouldn’t have anything to do with our hands and sharp pointy sticks.

Knitting update. I have finished quite a few projects and lots to upload and share, but I have been lazy and slacking in my blogging responsibilities. I’ve also been a little ill. I don’t know if I want to call it a flare up, but pain and intense fatigue is involved, but everything is brightening up and I feel much better so soon you will be seeing some post on this site.

  4. I made the pledge have you?

    December 7, 2011 by enid

I made the pledge to that this Christmas at least half of the gifts I give will be handmade. Either made from me or purchased from an artisan.

I swore I wouldn’t do any Christmas knits this year but I caved. Although one of the knits isn’t really a Christmas gift, but it is December so the lines have blurred and now my brain has determined that I must finish this one right away.

The Hand Made Gift Guide is the place to go. Check it out maybe you can do some of your shopping there.

Warm Holiday Greetings from the Yarnage house to yours. I hope you all enjoy this wallpaper as much as I enjoyed making it. The background pattern is yarn. A happy little accident that reminded me of a Christmas tree pine all that was missing was the snow. If you are curious about the yarn I used it was Brooks Farm test yarn. EXP Mohair YRL (100%YRL Mohair). 4 oz/275 yards.

It has some beautiful colors in it, reds, rusts, & greens. I had to get it even though I didn’t have a plan for it. After my Christmas knitting is all done I think this will be next in my queue.

Merry Christmas Y’all! and Happy Holidays!
